San Pedro de la Paz, December 2, 2024 – Desarrollo País S.A., a state-owned company dedicated to advancing infrastructure projects in Chile, has announced the acquisition of the Arauco Building in the Biobío Region. This property will be transformed into the new San Pedro de la Paz Municipal Building, improving public services and enhancing the working conditions of more than 500 municipal employees.
During the announcement ceremony, Luz Granier, Chair of Desarrollo País, emphasized that this initiative is part of the company’s broader effort to accelerate the development of functional and efficient infrastructure. “This project is not only about optimizing resources and modernizing facilities—it’s a replicable model for other cities across Chile. It demonstrates how public-private collaboration can deliver concrete, high-impact results. More than just a building, this space will provide access to quality services and symbolize a deep commitment to both the community and municipal workers,” she stated.
With a strategic location in the heart of San Pedro de la Paz and 4,670 square meters of usable space, the new municipal headquarters will consolidate various government departments under one roof. The improved facilities aim to enhance the quality of services provided to residents while ensuring a dignified and modern working environment for municipal employees.
The current Mayor of San Pedro de la Paz, Javier Guiñez, expressed his enthusiasm, stating: “Today, we take a crucial step towards dignifying the work of our employees and improving services for our residents. By bringing all municipal offices together in one location, we will eliminate unnecessary bureaucratic hurdles that often frustrate the community.”
Incoming Mayor Juan Pablo Spoerer echoed this sentiment, highlighting the long-term vision behind the project. “This new facility is not just about better infrastructure; it reflects our commitment to fairness in public service delivery. Our administration will continue fostering public-private partnerships to ensure that all areas of our municipality experience growth and an improved quality of life.”
The project is being financed by the Regional Government of Biobío. Rodrigo Díaz, Governor of Biobío, underscored the strategic importance of Desarrollo País’ involvement: “This project is more than an improvement for municipal operations—it’s an innovative model for addressing public infrastructure challenges in our region. The presence of Desarrollo País in Biobío sets a precedent for future collaborations that will benefit our communities.”
With the property acquisition and legal registration now completed, the project will move into the design phase, with Desarrollo País working alongside the municipality to secure the necessary funding for renovations and adaptations. Once finished, the new municipal headquarters will bring together all local government departments in a single, modern, and functional space, significantly enhancing public service efficiency and working conditions.
