Desarrollo País, a state-owned corporation mandated to execute infrastructure projects in an agile and efficient manner, and Google, the technological giant, announced the beginning of a strategic alliance with the aim of establishing a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) for the Humboldt project, an initiative that consists of the construction and installation of a submarine fiber optic cable that will connect Chile and Australia.
The SPV between Desarrollo País and Google will be responsible for managing data transport capacity in this new submarine infrastructure, becoming a direct and open international link between South America and Asia. This strategic project will allow the establishment of a new direct connection with Australia and Asia, thus strengthening our presence and participation in key global markets.
It is worth remembering that Humboldt will provide end-to-end connectivity between Valparaíso (Chile) and Sydney (Australia), with the possibility of connecting the main trunk to the Juan Fernández Island and Isla de Pascua.
This open-access cable not only represents an advancement in telecommunications infrastructure but also establishes the first direct international connection, opening crucial pathways to Australia and Asia in the South Pacific. The partnership reflects the joint commitment of both organizations to innovation, global connectivity, and sustainable development.
Patricio Rey Sommer, CEO of Desarrollo País, commented that this is "a great milestone for Desarrollo País's flagship project, the Humboldt submarine cable, which after many years of work, we are advancing to the project's materialization stage. Our strategic partner, of enormous international prestige, provides us with the certainty that these works will be carried out with the highest technological standards available. The goal we have set for ourselves is to consolidate
Chile on the global map as a digital hub, connecting the countries of the region with the Asia Pacific. This fact demonstrates that the public-private partnership model represented by Desarrollo País is instrumental for Chile's growth."
This agreement is a significant step towards the development of the Humboldt Project, which will enhance digital connectivity between Chile and Australia. Both strategic partners will now proceed with the negotiation and drafting of the Definitive Agreements to carry out this ambitious infrastructure project.
