Santiago, May 2025 — Desarrollo País S.A. announces a significant milestone in the Request for Proposal (RFP) process for the Paso Pehuenche Project: seven proposals have been received from national and international stakeholders interested in becoming co-investing partners in this terrestrial digital connectivity initiative.
This project aims to enhance and strengthen digital connectivity across Latin America through a new high-availability terrestrial fiber optic route that links the Humboldt submarine cable with the Paso Pehuenche border crossing in the Maule Region.
The objective is to improve regional connectivity by establishing a new route between Chile, Argentina, and/or Brazil, thereby reinforcing terrestrial data traffic corridors in Latin America. Additionally, it seeks to diversify international connections by offering a geographically distinct alternative to current digital interconnection routes, with a special focus on the Maule Region.
Patricio Rey, CEO of Desarrollo País, emphasized that “the reception of these seven proposals marks a key milestone in the search for a strategic partner, reflecting the market’s interest in high- standard infrastructure that connects Chile to the world. This project will help position our country as a strategic digital hub while also improving the quality of life for people across Chile.”
With the proposal phase now concluded — in which bidders had to meet defined requirements and demonstrate both technical and financial capacity — the next stage will involve negotiations and refinement of the project model with shortlisted candidates. This will pave the way for the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) during the second half of 2025.
